WNS June 26 - Mini Giro

We're on for the 26th - the course is good.

Back by popular demand, the mini Giro. The mini Giro around Leighton Centre features mini Mortirolo and mini Stelvio. Each loop has about 1000 ft of climbing and the A and B group will do 2 loops, C's will do one. For parking - Highway 22X and 37th Street is ok, also there is a little parking near the start/finish. Or ride from town if you can. The start/finish is 500m east of what's shown on the map below. Go south on 37th Street till you hit Township Road 221, take a right and go past Highway 773 (Road to Nepal) about 500 m. I'll need 4 or 5 volunteers as well. This year there will be about 1 km of gravel on each loop (242 ave) for the A and B race. The C group will be gravel free.

Because traffic is hell and the days are long, we will start the race at 6:45 PM sharp.

Series 2 Week 1 Details June 12 - Woodland ITT

We're back to the Woodland TT course for the start of Series 2. This time we will focus on a Merckx style race however, in light of the upcoming Banff Race, feel free to arrive in all your aero gear if you want to test yourself for the weekend Banff ITT. A nominal penalty of one minute will be assessed to anyone in full or partial aero equipment. A little less of a penalty if you are racing just with an aero road frame. There will be no appeal! I'll assess penalties as I sign you up for the TT.

There is some parking near the start of the race located on the gravel sideroad parallel to highway 1A. However, we encourage those who can to park in town, or near Bearspaw Road and ride to the start. Spreading out the cars helps with community relations. We will endeavor to try and start at 6:30pm ish so please try and get there early enough to get signed up and assigned a start number. Distance is 16km so ride hard and ride consistent, there are a few hills in the closing kilometres. After you finish, it's an easy neutral ride back to the starting area down Lochend and along the 1A. Be careful with the 1A, it's a busy piece of road at times. The course starts along the 1A heading West. You turn off the 1A near the top of the Cochrane Hill at Retreat road, following the road as it twists back and turns north. The next and last turn is right onto 262 which takes you to the finish along 262 a kilometre before you reach Lochend Road.

Volunteers are needed to make it a safe race. Let me know if you can volunteer.

Series 1 Week 5 - Road Race -Millarville Course - June 5, 2013 6:30PM

Let's try this again. We'll try to run the road race again this week.

We will be using the Millarville loop for the first road race of the season. This is a great course for a Road Race as there is light traffic and a variety of terrain.

The race begins near the parking lot at the intersection of Highways 22x and 22 near Priddis. Racers ride south on Highway 22, West (right) on Highway 549 past Millarville, North (right) on 240 St. W, East (right) on Plummers Road which turns north into 240 St, East (right) on the second part of Plummers Road and ends just before Highway 22.

And you know what that means! They have reserved seating booked at the Wild Rose Brewery Taproom for after the race. In case anyone is also interested in the race details, it is a full aero 15km ITT in Springbank. It will be on the same course we used for the Team TT several weeks ago.

As usual, we may a few volunteers for the this course.

The route will start south from the Springbank Meeting spot to towards the treacherous speed bumps of Mountain River Estates where we'll reverse course and head North back. A quick right on Springbank Road up to the Chicken Ranch where we'll head yet again south on range road 32 towards the end of the road. At the circle, come about again and set course for Lower Springbank Road where you'll turn to right yet again and make for Range Road 31. One last foray south on 31 where we'll turn around again, and the finish north along 31.
