Thank you and you and you.

Thanks to everyone who showed up, raced, and helped out for this years C4racing Wednesday Night Series. It's been one of the most fun sporting things I've done putting it together and I'm looking forward very much to next year. Thanks to all the volunteers from last night including Jess, Emilie, and Lev for getting our long last race off the ground. Special thanks to Mr. Highway Sherrif for making you guys do the prologue twice but that's racing. I'm on holidays in Ontario right now so I'll get the final results out in a couple of days and the final standing but it's enough to say that Trev crushed it last night and Rod couldn't quite hang on. Good stuff.
Once again, thanks to everyone that's been a part of the series and I'll see you all next year.

The Final TT: Return to Dunbow

Well, back to where we started this whole thing with a final standard TT. Despite the threatening weather it was quite a pleasant night and we avoided the rain until after the last rider made it in. With swirly up and down winds, it was a certainly a challenge. Even more so for the two unfortunate victims of flat tires out there, it doesn't really help the time out. ANyway, good job and hopefully you've had some good TT practice over the series. On with the results....

1 Rod MacAlister Speed Theory A 23:29
2 Michael Healy Speed Theory B 25:45
3 Brian Beaulieu C4 B 25:57
4 Robert Armstrong C4 B 26:23
5 Lachlan Holmes Speed Theory A 29:39
6 David Morgantini C4 C 35:42
V Jacek Kasprzyk C4 A V

You can probably guess who had the flats. Of note, Rod's time was the fourth fastest we've seen on this course and close to the 22:59 course record which was set by Ryan Barr in the very first week. Special thanks to Jacek who was the turnaround volunteer and helped with one of the flats. Thanks to all who came out.

Next week is the finale back at the Priddis location (22 and 22X) and we'll start with a ~2km prologue TT, a 1 lap RR, and a final ~9km TT, all Merckx style. Bonus points are on offer and I'll update the standing later this week going in to it. We hope to start at 6:30 and it should be a blast.

Thrills a Minute.

This week's little excursion is a standard TT back at the Dunbow road location. Although the weather looks craptacular, I'll be there, sitting in my nice warm car watching you guys suffer. That being said, the weather has worked out so far so I'm hoping for a nice and pleasant evening.

Team Racing Redux

Back at it again. The weather held off and actually was quite a pleasant evening with a couple of new faces and many of the usual suspects. Ten riders toed the line and to keep things interesting I split them into three teams lead by Rod MacAlister (orange), Jeff Bell (yellow), and Darcy Gullacher (pink). The goal was for the captains to get 2 of their riders across the line first and the score would be the sum of the places (excluding the captains) with the low score winning. Make sense? I hope so. This time around the race was a little more 'attacky' if I can make up a word and it was quite entertaining to watch. The monkey wrench was a couple of flats which we haven't seen this year which really impacted the boys in pink. However, Yuri Lipkov rode off the front near the end to take the first finish for pink, followed by Rick Courtney for orange, Paul Rosenberg for Yellow, and David Mongantini held on for fourth across. It's all about the second riders though and in the end the final tally was...

1st Orange with 6 points
Rod MacAlister (cap'n)
Rick Courtney
David Morgantini
Willy Vansevenant

2nd Pink with 8 points
Darcy Gullacher (cap'n)
Yuri Lipkov
Neal Stoughton

3rd Yellow with 9 points
Jeff Bell (cap'n)
Paul Rosenberg
Norm Smith

All in all it was a good fun night, and I look forward to using that format again next year. I can't forget to mention my loyal volunteers for the evening which included Iron Lev Krivitsky, Brian The Hammer Beaulieu, and Rob Marathon Man Armstrong. Thanks all, it ran so smoothly.
Next week is a standard TT back at Dunbow and the following week will be the finale on this course again. I have figured out a couple of details and I can say that it will start at 6:30 at the Priddis Meething Spot with a 2ish km prologue up the hill on 22X towards town, a 1 lap road race, and a 10ish km TT from near the road race finish back to the meeting spot. As we'll be doing this on the fly, Merckx rules will be in effect. I ain't supposed to be easy. I'll time each portion and the winner will be low aggregate time. See you next week at Dunbow.

On weather...

Just a note regarding the weather tonight. Hopefully all will be fine and we'll get the race off but the possibility does exist that we'll have an issue. I will check Environment Canada later tonight and if there is a "Thunderstorm Warning" for the area we won't be able to ride. If there is a "Thunderstorm Watch" we'll play it by ear. In any case, if the weather does turn on us, I'll have to pull the plug during the race and send you guys back. Hopefully though, all will be well and we'll give it a go. If you don't see an update then we are probably a go.

Teams will be the order of the day...

Back to the team format once again this Wednesday. We'll line 'em up and pick 'em out just like a grade five kick ball team at recess. Same format as last time and hopefully the kind of finish that we saw last time. Come on, come all, we'll try and split everyone up appropriately and create some balance. Wednesday at 7 at the Priddis meeting spot (22 and 22X). See ya then.

And a note about the July 30th finale...I'm planning a mini (micro) stage race with a prologue TT, a 1 lap road race, and a final TT for which total time over the three events will rule the day. We'll need to start at 6:30 or so if we want to get this extravaganza off before the bats come out and I'll need a couple of volunteers for this one.

Updated Standings

My apologies for not getting these out more regularly. Excel and this blogging program are not the best of friends at times so most things need to be entered by hand. I'll figure it out for next year and keep a running scoresheet somewhere on the page. For this one, I have fixed a couple of problems from the previous one and of course updated the results. I have included only the top ten as I am not terribly efficient at typing.

Saturday/Sunday Upcoming Madness

Two, count 'em, two big deals on this weekend. Speed Theory is hosting their inaugural dual-stage TT on Saturday and it looks like one of the neatest and best new races to appear on the calendar and it's right in our own backyard. Be there. Registration closes tomorrow and check www.speedtheorycyclingteam.blogspot.com for details. Sunday is our annual classic, the Stampede Road Race and will be as amazing as always. Registration closes Friday so get on there and get signed up.

Beeeeeyooooootiful Night!

Weather great...course good...legs ready...Allez! The second Merckx TT of our series went tonight and all riders seemed on (with the exception of Trev who had HAMMERED an unnatural 2:09 90k at Great White North last Sunday). Some guys were missing the TT gear though (I'm looking at you Mark) but the race itself was a true test of metal. New this time was the 1km to go dead skunk marker that I can't guarantee will be there next time and if it is I would suggest strongly that it be avoided. Anyway, on to the results...

1 Alex Shaw Speed Theory A 23:23
2 Stephen Kenney Speed Theory A 23:54
3 Rod MacAlister Speed Theory A 24:25
4 Cody Godlonton Highwood A 24:42

14 David Morgantini C4 C 28:23
V Brad Barron C4 C V

Big thanks to Brad for handling the turnaround! We'll be back at the Priddis meeting spot next Wednesday for a second crack at the team race format and hopefully it will be as exciting as last time. See ya then.

Back to Dunbow

That's right, we're back this week to the Dunbow Road location for another crack at the Merckx style TT or should we call it the Onodera style TT. The rules are simple enough ... 16km, 1 bike, NO aero gear (wheels, bars, helmet). You and your road machine need to crank out a good ole solo effort and let the chips fall where they may. Wednesday at 7. See ya there, and I'll need a volunteer or two.

Very Interesting.

And a bucket of pain. The Australian pursuit is a nasty little race emphasising hard team work and road awareness as the rabbits try not to get eaten and the hounds look for a little snack. Such was the case last night where we tried the format and for the most part it went really quite well. The goal is for the chasers to catch the lead group just before the finish and that's hard to do over a 55km course with mixed groups. It worked last night though. The riders were split into two groups with Rod, Baguette, Lachlan, and Chris as the designated chasers. The gap was seven minutes and the mission was clear. What ensued was a neat little chase where we could see the time coming down but it was going to be tight. And it was. Three rabbits and three hounds were on the final hill almost together with the rabbits running off to victory by the slimest of margins. Andrew Wolaniuk lead Richard Vervoort and Willy Vansevent over the line for the win by seconds with the Big Baguette and crew 27 seconds later. Good job to everyone involved, it was really neat to watch and big thanks to Brian Beaulieu for the help out on the course. The final tally...
1 Andrew Wolaniuk Bow A 0
2 Richard Vervoort Highwood B 0:06
3 Willy Vansevenant Highwood C 0:09
4 Stephen Kenney Speed Theory A 0:36
5 Rod MacAlister Speed Theory A st
6 Chris Lee C4 B st
7 Lachlan Holmes Speed Theory A 6:03
8 Michael Healy Speed Theory B 7:28
9 Norm Smith C4 C 8:10
DNF Patrick Brick C4 B -
DNF David Morgantini C4 C -
V Brian Beaulieu C4 B V

Next week we are back to Dunbow for the second Merckx TT.

The plan for tonight.

Armed with my handy dandy calculator, I'll be splitting the riders into groups and in honour of our upside down friends we'll do an Australian pursuit type of road race. You'll be split into groups, hopefully of 4 or 5, and given a head start. All except of course for the hammerheads who will be tasked with the role of chasing you down, and if you're a hammerhead you're tasked with the role of pacelining your way up and erasing the gap. If we're lucky, everyone gets to the finish at the same time. See ya then.
